Dear Reader,
More than five years ago, when I began exploring the idea of solo parenting, I longed for a space dedicated to women like myself, wading through this big, scary process. I did not find it. Instead, I found women’s stories and journeys, scattered across the internet – Instagram, YouTube, Facebook.
These women taught me everything about solo-parenting. They helped me deal with basic things like those fascinating acronyms (I see you, TTC)! They showed me how to inject myself with those dreadful progesterone in oil shots (I see you, PIO)! They even gave me the name for the type of family I was hoping to build, Solo Mother by Choice (or SMC)!
Our Why
While I will forever be grateful to these women who shared their lives so selflessly, I’ve always known that this space was necessary for this community. A central place where women can find resources to support their ‘non-traditional’ family-building journey. This is why I created Solo Mama.
In this magazine, you will find more than advice. You will find thoughtful features, practical tools, deeply personal essays, and the voices of other solo moms who are charting this path in real time. You’ll also find honesty. Joy. Frustration. Celebration. Community.
It is my hope that when you visit this community, you will find resonance in our shared stories, you will find answers to your questions, and you may even want to share a piece of your story with us.
Thank you for being here.
With love always,
Anna Attih
